The main tasks of scientific research of the laboratory are:

Development of methods for assessing and predicting the quantity and quality of surface waters based on mathematical modeling of the processes of formation of water and hydrochemical runoff in river basins, development of a set of measures for engineering flood protection in river basins. -
Improvement of existing and development of new methods of mathematical modeling of hydrophysical and hydrological processes using geoinformation technologies, results of space monitoring, landscape-hydrological and hydrochemical studies. -
Development and supply various equipment for scientific research, such as lasers and spectral analysis instruments.
